DESCRIPTION

DAY 01: YANGON ARRIVAL
Welcome to Myanmar! You are picked up at airport by our local tour guide and driver to transfer to hotel. Yangon is a relatively quiet and charming city with its impressive colonial and spiritual heritage. Today you will explore the city centre and its fabulous mix of architecture and sites. The streets are filled with historical buildings many of which have a faded colonial charm not seen elsewhere in Asia. Start at the post office – a historic building, walk to Sule Paya in the middle of downtown, passing by Strand Hotel, Mahabandoola Garden and Independence Monument along the way. Then continue to Little India and Chinatown, a colorful cacophony of restaurants, temples and markets. Visit Bogyoke Market, formerly known as Scott’s Market. This is Yangon’s best market for handicrafts and other goods. (Note: Market is closed on Mondays and public holidays). Continue to a local tea shop a chance to experience an integral part of Burmese life, pick the snacks and enjoy the local coffee/ tea and mingle with the locals here. Next you will visit Kandawgyi Park, one of central Yangon’s greenest spots. Here you will see the glittering Karaweik barge, a replica of the royal barge, and the vast lake with views of Shwedagon in the background. From here, continue to famous Shwedagon Pagoda – the most revered Buddhist temple in Myanmar. Overnight in Yangon.

DAY 02: YANGON – BAGAN
After an early breakfast at the hotel, transfer to Yangon’s Mingaladon Airport for the flight to Bagan (Nyaung Oo). In Bagan, your trip will cover: – Thagyar Pone Temple, a temple with spectacular views over the surrounding plains – Ananda Temple, one of the most revered temples in Bagan. – Myinkaba Village and Gubyaukgyi Temple which is noted for its beautiful mural paintings on its inner walls and well-preserved plaster carvings on its exterior. – Manuha Temple and Nan Paya Temple, two smaller temples with nice Buddha statues and stone work. – Visit lacquer ware and wood crafts workshop to get to know about the local culture. Take a break with lunch (pay on your own) and then return to your hotel for a short rest, escaping the extreme heat of the midday sun. This afternoon, continue to visit: the rural village of Minnanthu, one of Bagan’s least visited areas. Here you will explore temples such as Payathonzu, Lemyentha and Nandamannya before heading to the riverside pier. Board a local boat for a slow cruise down the Irrawaddy River. As you cruise the waters, observe the lifestyle of the fishermen and riverside villagers as well as enjoying the unique perspective of Bagan’s temples. Return to your hotel this evening. Overnight in Bagan.

DAY 03: BAGAN – MT. POPA & SALAY
Optional tour: Hot-air balloon ride flying over the plains of Bagan. Enjoy the fabulous views as the sun rises over the stupas and Irrawaddy River. This is truly an unforgettable and unique experience! (Note: available only from October to March).Please contact us for pricing. Start with a drive to Chauk to visit the fabulous morning market, filled with locals buying and selling their goods. Continue on to the village of Salay, an important Buddhist centre, and visit its famed wooden monastery with intricate carvings. Turn east and head through the countryside to Mount Popa, an extinct volcano which is believed to be home to the ‘nats’, ancient Burmese animist spirits. Climb to the top for stunning views of the surrounding countryside before descending down to Bagan. (Note: Salay monastery museum closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and public holidays). Overnight in Bagan.

DAY 04: BAGAN – HEHO – INLE LAKE
After breakfast, transfer to Nyaung Oo Airport for a short flight to Heho. From Heho, a scenic one-hour drive leads to Nyaung Shwe, the gateway village to Inle Lake. On the way, make a stop at the wooden Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery . Have a trishaw tour around Nyaung Shwe town, through the quiet streets, monasteries and local houses and markets. Board a private motorboat to head out to Inle Lake, one of Myanmar’s most spectacular sights. Inle Lake is famous with the skilled one leg-rowing fishermen and its beauty. Visit Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the lake’s main sanctuary, which contains five sacred Buddha images covered in gold leaf. Explore the local crafts of Inle Lake with a stop at the weaving village of Inpawkhone and a cheroot factory – the local hand-made Burmese cigars. Overnight on Inle Lake.

The-InLe-Lake – Burma

DAY 05: INDEIN
After breakfast, join the streams of local people to the morning market in Myanmar traditional clothes. (Note: market is daily except on dark moon day and full moon day). Then, continue to the western banks of the lake and travel down a small canal to Indein – a Pa-Oh village which is known for its stupa-covered hill at Alaung Sitthou. Spend time exploring Indein on foot, strolling around the village, visiting a local school and making your way to the top of Alaung Sitthou where you can wander amid the weather-beaten stupas and enjoy magnificent views of the lake below. Join the local host family to prepare your lunch will be another highlight of the trip to know more about tasty Burmese cuisine. Lunch will be simple and served in locals standard way. Rest of the day free for your own leisure. Overnight in Inle Lake.

DAY 06: INLE LAKE – HEHO – YANGON DEPARTURE (B)
After your breakfast, transfer to Heho Airport for the flight to Yangon to connect your international flight home. End of services.
